Free Lesson: Load Decision Rule
Turn rate, lane fit, deadhead, reload risk, dwell time, and broker behavior into a repeatable load decision.

A load decision rule keeps the truck from being sold one phone call at a time. The rule does not remove judgment. It gives judgment a place to stand.
The rule
Score the load before the truck is emotionally committed. The minimum question is simple: does this load beat the rate floor after empty miles, time risk, paperwork quality, and reload plan?
Rate qualityCompare the all-in rate against your minimum rate after fuel, empty miles, tolls, and time.
Lane qualityCheck reload probability, appointment risk, parking, weather, and whether the lane returns you to useful freight.
Broker qualityReview setup friction, payment behavior, detention handling, paperwork, and whether problems get resolved in writing.
Operator script
“Before I commit the truck, I need the final pickup window, delivery window, detention terms, accessorial process, and rate confirmation in writing.”
Do this this week
- Write your no-go conditions before looking at new loads.
- Track three loads you rejected and why.
- Track three loads you accepted and whether the rule was right.
- Update your broker scorecard at the end of the week.
The paid Lab connects this rule to the broker scorecard, invoice workflow, and weekly review so it becomes a system instead of a sticky note.
